Hi!  I’m Suzie Olsen. I’m a systems engineer, working on the US Coast Guard Search and Rescue System, and author of the children’s books series Annie Aardvark, Mathematician.  I’m also a mom to the cutest kid (I’m biased, duh).  We enjoy building Lego sets together and performing various science experiments.  He’s my muse for my books and blog. My child and I have some great times together, but he also drives me nuts.  Motherhood is hard.  No matter what type of mom: working, stay at home, godmother, and so on.  It’s hard, period. Engineering is hard for me too, and I am envious of my engineering friends who are naturally adept to the profession. But with help and support from my fellow engineering moms, I’ve learned to navigate both a little bit easier.  I still feel like I fail at both sometimes, but having that support (from engineering working moms) helps me carry on.  And even though both engineering and motherhood are hard, I love being both.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.
